Officer Reports:

  • Annette gave the treasurer report. Currently there is an available balance of $12,960.72 in the BEN account. (with $172.84 belonging to the 5th grade promo group)

  • Annette explained that when the average daily balance for BEN goes under $7500, the account is charged a $25 service fee. This happens in the summer months. She will look into possibly moving the account to M&T or to a different type of account still at Key Bank.

  • Annette filed the tax return for BEN yesterday

  • Annette went over the budget for the next school year (2017-2018) line by line. One line was added to fund webpage upkeep

  • The following were budget requests (all were unanimously approved):

  • The reading specialist requested $450 for Hills Brothers. This will be tied into the spring author/book event. It benefits all students K-5th grade

  • Snowflake Shop committee requested $800

  • Nora requested $100 to buy refreshments & snacks for the Parent University workshops hosted at Errick Rd (one this Thursday and one in the spring). She will use the Friends of BEN account for this.

  • There was a lengthy discussion about the future of the Snowflake Shop. There are concerns about a large portion of BEN’s money being tied up in this event and not available for other things. Suggestions were made to up the price of items, so it has its own slush fund; to use an outside business or to change the event to something like breakfast with Santa. Kelly L. will put a poll on Facebook about this. Renee T. said she would like to run it as is for one more year. The discussion was tabled to the next meeting.

  • Julie reported for Merrie Carole who was absent. BEN received several thank you cards. In addition, a $50 donation was made to the diabetes association and $50 gift card was given to Linda, the secretary who retired

  • The October minutes are in the process of being shared from Kelly C. to Karin C. and will be available at the next meeting.

New Business:

  • There will be a Poinsettia Sale on Friday Dec. 2nd. It is a cash and carry event and a no cost fundraiser. 4 ½” & 6 ½” poinsettias will be sold as well as 3 different varieties of wreaths. This will take place from 2:30-6pm at Errick Road School.

  • Kelly L. shared the yearbook cover for this year. 5th graders voted on 6 different ones from the catalog.

Other:

  • Nora shared the following:

  • The district is actively engaging in conversations with neighbors next to the school to see if they are interested in selling and with the empty lot across the street to see if they can make additional parking.

  • This year’s spring concert will be held at the high school, which helps with seating, parking & air conditioning. The down side is Mrs. Frederick’s doesn’t get to practice there.

  • Based on parent input, next year Open House will be split K-2 on one night and 3-5 another night. They are looking into the two days before Labor Day, when the staff reports but not the students.

  • Kelly L. is on the committee charged with engaging more parent involvement. They meet tomorrow.
