SUMMARY:Parent University Session - Addition and Subtraction
DESCRIPTION:Addition and Subtraction This session will focus on strategies that grade k to grade 2 teachers use to develop a conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction in the early years. Topics will include: number bonds\, the arrow way\, totals below\, place value charts\, make 10\, take from 10 and the standard way. Presenters will explain why each method builds on the next and supports students on their path to the standard method. \nFacilitated by Jenn Mielke; Math Specialist and Jenn Golias; Teacher on Special Assignment for Professional Development. \n\nDoes your child’s math homework look like a foreign language? Do you often wonder why your child is learning math in a different way than you did? Are you interested in learning the math strategies your child is learning at school so you can help your child at home? If you answered yes to any of these questions\, please join us for our Parent University series. You may choose to attend all the sessions in the series or pick individual sessions. Childcare will be provided by Niagara-Wheatfield High School Students and refreshments will be provided. All sessions will last from 6 to 7:30 pm.
